McLean, VA – Aug. 20, 2018 – NTT DATA Services, a recognized leader in global technology services, and Spear, Inc., a premiere IT Federal Government contractor, announced the approval of their Mentor-Protégé agreement under the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) All Small Mentor-Protégé Program (ASMPP). The two companies are entering into the program together, positioning Spear to learn from NTT DATA’s more than 50 years in the public sector.

The ASMPP, launched in October 2016 and modeled after the SBA’s 8(a) Mentor-Protégé Program, is a business development program aimed at increasing small business capabilities. Under the ASMPP, NTT DATA Federal, Inc. will take on the role of mentor, providing Spear, Inc., a Virginia-based IT solutions and management consulting company, with business development assistance.

“NTT DATA is excited to engage with Spear in what is bound to be a mutually-beneficial relationship,” said Tim Conway, president, public sector, NTT DATA Services. “We can now partner with Spear and use our combined technology expertise in IT modernization, applications development and data analytics to improve government, while at the same time providing Spear with counseling to improve their business.”

In order for NTT DATA Services and Spear to qualify for the ASMPP program as a mentor-protégé, the SBA had to agree that the support provided by NTT DATA would promote real developmental gains for Spear.

“Entering into the ASMPP with NTT DATA as our mentor better equips Spear to compete and succeed in the Federal IT market,” said Richard Pineda, Chief Executive Officer, Spear, Inc. “With a global leader of NTT DATA’s caliber on our team, we will undoubtedly be in a better position to grow and improve our business.”

The mentor-protégé arrangement between NTT DATA and Spear, Inc. under the ASMPP may last up to three years and may be extended for another three years.
