NTT DATA has partnered with Chip Ganassi Racing on its INDYCAR program since 2013 and has methodically expanded its role and visibility with the renowned motorsports organization since the outset.
NTT DATA currently features a multi-pronged partnership that consists of being the primary partner of the No. 10 NTT DATA Honda driven by Alex Palou; associate sponsor of the No. 9 Honda driven by six-time series champion Scott Dixon; primary and associate partnership of the No. 48 driven by both Jimmie Johnson and Tony Kanaan; and the Official IT Services Partner to Chip Ganassi Racing.
The venture into North America’s premier open-wheel racing series began in 2013 at one of the world’s most iconic races – the Indianapolis 500 – with NTT DATA serving as the primary sponsor on the No. 8 entry of driver Ryan Briscoe. Following the Indianapolis 500, NTT DATA maintained an associate partnership with the team on the No. 83 car of driver Charlie Kimball for the remainder of that season.
NTT DATA expanded its relationship in 2014 by becoming the primary partner for Briscoe’s entry and then shifted to Ganassi’s No. 10 car driven by Kanaan for the 2015-17 seasons. Ed Jones drove the No. 10 in 2018 before Felix Rosenqvist moved into that seat for the next two seasons. During this period, NTT DATA also became the associate sponsor on the No. 9 entry of Dixon in 2017 and continues in that role today.
In addition to the partnership with the No. 10 and No. 9 entries, NTT DATA extended its relationship with Chip Ganassi Racing beginning in 2021 to include the newly created No. 48 entry featuring Johnson and Kanaan. It was part of a multi-year partnership renewal that NTT DATA and Chip Ganassi Racing formally announced in November of 2020.
Johnson, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion who will be competing in his rookie NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, will drive the 13 street circuit/road course events while Kanaan, a series champion and Indy 500 winner, will handle driving duties for the four oval races, including the Indianapolis 500. Johnson will be driving the NTT DATA livery for the street circuit event in Toronto on July 9 while Kanaan will run NTT DATA as his primary for the Aug. 21 race at St. Louis’ World Wide Technology Raceway.
NTT DATA has enjoyed the thrill of victory as a primary team sponsor, earning its first visit to Victory Lane in 2017 with Dixon and the No. 9 NTT DATA Honda at Road America. The next came in 2020 and once again it was at Road America as Rosenqvist, driving the No. 10 NTT DATA Honda, captured the victory July 12 in Race 2 at the permanent road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Chip Ganassi Racing, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in motorsports in 2020, enters the 2021 season having amassed 13 INDYCAR series championships and 113 victories, including four prestigious Indy 500 crowns, among its accomplishments as an organization.
